Animal Crossing (Gamecube)
Japanese Title: Dōbutsu no Mori (どうぶつの森)
Release Date(s): Animal Crossing was first released in English in September 2002 in North America. It took more than a year to reach Aussie shores. Animal Crossing features many features originally not found in the first two versions of Animal Crossing that were released in Japan (Dōbutsu no Mori on Nintendo 64 and Dōbutsu no Mori Plus on GameCube). When Animal Crossing was first translated from Japanese to English many events and items had to be changed as well as the text, due to differences between eastern and western cultures. For example, dates for festivals in Japan did not always (or ever) correspond with those in America or Australia. Thus, when the Japanese saw how good the translation became, the translated it back to Japanese and released it as Dōbutsu no Mori e-Plus in June 2003. Animal Crossing is a communication game, where four players can own houses in the town. Each house starts out small, but gradually the player can increase it's size by paying of debts owed to the local storeowner, Tom Nook. Eventually, when the debt is payed off, the player can start a savings account at the bank. All the other villagers in the town are animals, which contributes to the game's title. All towns start with 6 villagers, but depending on the actions of the players more will move in or the existing will move out. Dōbutsu no Mori e-Plus in Japan featured many more features than the english Animal Crossing which were added in the re-translation. Some of these features, such as the ability to buy medicine for bee stings or the ability to pick up flowers were later included in Animal Crossing: Wild World.
